ROYAL MEATH REGIMENT TUNIC

We have for sale a Royal Meath Regiment tunic circa 1860 in a beautiful light beech display case which measures 41.5 inch’s by 31.5 inch’s by 3 inch’s. The tunic is in great condition, great embroidery and silver buttons i have not had it out of the case but i was assured that the back was as good as the front.A great thing from a great regiment and ready to hang on the wall.

PRICE  SOLD

As requested i have had the tunic removed from the frame by a clothing professional  and i was not disappointed , the back is every bit as good .If i have to be critical there are two small pin head sized holes under the right arm at the back , two small marks approx 10mm long on the inside of the tail and a portion of the leather band on the inside of the tunic is a lighter shade of red possibly a repair at some time, none of these points visible from the front . I have given instructions for the tunic be be given a light clean and dust before being packed with acid free paper and re framed ensuring it keeps its condition for many years to come.

As with the vetterli i have done nothing to this rifle  barr a blast with the air line to get rid of some of the years of dust.

ULSTER VETTERLI RIFLE

We have for sale a Ulster Vetterli rifle in great untouched condition, this rifle has spent the last 32 years in an attic in County Antrim. most of these have the UVF for God and Ulster stamp. This one has the not so common UPG  [Ulster Provisional Government ] stamp. We have not touched this rifle apart from removing some very light surface rust from the end of the barrel and blowing some of the dust off with an air line . This item is in superb condition even if somewhat dirty . I have no doubt that if restored this gun could be brought back to near mint condition.

The Italian 10.35mm Model 1870/87 infantry rifle employed a bolt action mechanism developed by Friedrich Vetterli, whose design was adopted by the Swiss Army in 1869. Initially the Italian rifle was issued as a single-loader but, from 1887, was adapted to accept a box magazine, designed by Giuseppe Vitali. Model 1870/87 rifles were still in service with second line Italian units when Italy entered the First World War. Subsequently, most were re-chambered for the modern smokeless 6.5mm service cartridge. Prior to the First World War, as the Italian Army began to be equipped with the Model 1891 rifle many Vetterli-Vitali rifles were sold to arms dealers. A consignment of these, was purchased by the Ulster Volunteer Force during 1913-14. The UVF was a Protestant organization, created to oppose plans for Irish Home Rule. It would appear that most of the Italian rifles were issued to UVF volunteers in the rural counties of Armagh, Fermanagh and Monaghan, with more modern Mannlicher rifles being employed elsewhere
